BRICE BISCHOFF
Takers
6 JUNE - 11 JULY 2026
MALVOYANTE is pleased to present Takers, an exhibition of ten photographs by Brice Bischoff, opening June 6 in Echo Park.
The works in Takers emerge from Bischoff’s ongoing series How Close, developed over several years at Red Rock Canyon in the Mojave Desert. Central to the exhibition are kiln-formed glass objects—referred to as “takers”—which Bischoff fabricates and stages within the landscape before photographing them. These forms act as both sculptural interventions and optical devices, refracting, distorting, and re-framing the surrounding terrain.
In the resulting images, the desert is not simply depicted but altered through acts of placement and capture. The “takers” operate as intermediaries, drawing the landscape into themselves while simultaneously redirecting the viewer’s gaze. Questions of proximity, perception, and extraction surface across the work, as the camera becomes entangled with processes of taking—of images, of materials, of place.
By foregrounding these constructed elements within the photographic frame, Takers considers how images are shaped through both physical intervention and the mechanics of vision. The exhibition marks a focused presentation of Bischoff’s evolving investigation into the relationship between photography, landscape, and material transformation.
